How to Read a Bridge Bearing Schedule Before You Request a Quote
The core inputs that turn a generic bearing enquiry into a reviewable project package.
7 min readStart with the bearing function
A bearing schedule should identify the intended restraint arrangement before it becomes a purchase request. Fixed, guided and free support lines are not interchangeable descriptions: together they define how the superstructure transfers longitudinal and transverse actions while accommodating temperature movement. Review each support location in the context of the whole structure, particularly near expansion joints and fixed piers.
Read reactions as an envelope
Vertical reaction alone is rarely sufficient. The supplier needs the relevant service and ultimate combinations, horizontal actions, movement direction and expected rotation so that the selected interface, guide arrangement, connection hardware and inspection plan can be coordinated. State units and design basis consistently, and identify where values are factored or unfactored.
Connect data to the real support detail
Dimensions, anchor layout, pedestal clearance, jacking access and installation datum should travel with the reaction data. A clear drawing reduces the risk that a technically suitable bearing package becomes difficult to install or inspect once it reaches site.

Need to apply this to an actual support line?
Send the bearing schedule or drawing to Andy. The review starts with your project data and the applicable requirements.
