Installation

Bridge Bearing Installation Readiness: A Site Coordination Checklist

Key checks that connect the bearing drawing to the contractor’s installation sequence.

6 min read

Confirm levels and datums

Bearing assemblies need a defined installation reference. Before delivery, coordinate the expected top and bottom levels, orientation, guide direction and any temporary transit restraints with the contractor’s method statement. A marked, drawing-led package helps the team avoid switching functions between similar-looking supports.

Protect working surfaces

Sliding, machined and coated surfaces should remain protected through transport, storage and installation. The project team should agree when protective covers are removed and how the components are checked if installation is delayed.

Plan inspection before the lift

Inspection is most useful when it occurs at the right hold points. Agree on checks for marking, dimensions, orientation, anchor preparation, elevation and removal of temporary restraints before the structure is transferred onto its final support arrangement.
